Mercy Chinwo and Eezee Conceptz

No one can categorically say who's telling the truth between Mercy Chinwo and Eezee Conceptz

. I have my own thoughts on the matter, but I'll let things play out.

At the same time, I have a problem with Mercy's speech at a recent concert.

She said something along the lines of, "Nobody born of a woman will say I made you who you are."

I thought it was a mix of ignorance and arrogance speaking.

History tells a different story of her rise to stardom.

After winning Nigerian Idol in 2012, things didn't take off immediately.

She remained relatively unknown as a winner of the show. Nigerian Idol wasn't the hottest thing on TV at the time.

Fortunately, she featured in the movie 'House of Gold' the following year 2013.

It was a big deal because she was cast alongside stars like Yvonne Nelson, Majid Michel, singer Omawumi and rapper Ice Prince.

However, the movie didn't exactly make her an overnight sensation.

Like most talent show winners, her singing career was in a limbo for some years since Idol.

The release of first single "Testimony" in 2015 and "Igwe" in 2016 didn't really put her on.

There was a wild buzz around gospel singers like Nathaniel Bassey, Eben, Frank Edwards and the rest of the Loveworld singers at the time.

These guys had changed the game.

And the crase surrounding them made it challenging for any new contemporary gospel artist to gain momentum.

Cast your mind back to that time period.

From being Eezeetee’s backup singer, Mercy signed to EeZee Conceptz in 2017.

In 2018, she released her debut album containing her hit song "Excess Love".

2018 was a break out year for her.

It marked the begining of her award-winning journey, (Climax Awards, AFRIMMA, etc).

Her 2020 album 'Satisfied' catapulted her to another realm, with hits like Obinasom, Chinedum.

Not before long, she joined the league of artistes who had long reigned in the gospel world.

We know the rest.

In all of this one thing stands out; just one year as an artiste signed to Eezee Conceptz turned her story around.

Imagine the amount of work that went into positioning a new artiste... Making them go from being a PH city-based backup singer, to a bona fide star - in the space of one year.

Like, the massive success of her first album prompted her relocation to Lagos!

Think about what went into such a great feat. The media promotion, the production, mentorship, branding...

She may have been on Idol and the rest, but it's obvious that she was reintroduced to us as a gospel artiste to reckon with on the wings of that label.

Coming out to say it's God that lifts men simplifies the situation too much.

Also, she didn't come this far just because of her talent.

If it's like that, all the gifted singers in church choirs would be big.

Na Eezee Conceptz run am
